A central location, 27 holes and an emphasis on providing value have made River Oaks Golf Plantation a popular tee time. Home of the Bear, Fox and Otter nines, River Oaks is located just across the Intracoastal Waterway in Myrtle Beach, making it one of area’s most accessible courses.
River Oaks completed a $2 million renovation project in recent years, removing more than 2,500 trees, installing new carts paths, bunkers and champion Bermuda greens. The impact of the renovations was substantial, returning River Oaks to its peak condition.
The tree removal efforts opened up the fairways and allowed for increased sunlight and air flow throughout the course, which not only helped make it more playable but improved conditions as well.
River Oaks is one of only eight courses that offer a view of the Intracoastal Waterway, which is one of the benefits of playing the Fox 9. The par 3 third hole overlooks the Waterway and the fourth tee offers an equally stunning view.
The Otter nine is the most open of the three nines, highlighted by the par 5 sixth hole, which can be reached in two.
The Bear nine allows players to bang away with the driver, but a pair of meaty par 3, particularly the 223-yard eighth hole, provides it plenty of teeth.
River Oaks, as its renovation project attests, has remained committed to providing a quality round at a price point that entices golfers. Combine those factors with a premium location and River Oaks is a winner for many Myrtle Beach golf groups.
